Steina at STEIM and development of Image/ine software
“Steina’s live audiovisual experimentation reached another level during her tenure at Amsterdam’s Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music (STEIM) in the second half of the 1990s [where Image/ine software was developed] … Image/ine [renamed ImX and issued as freeware], development of which began in 1997, was the first software capable of running on a regular computer that allowed users to manipulate uncompressed video in real time. To some extent, this software for real-time performances and installations expanded on the effects made possible by the Rutt/Etra scan processer, which served as [Tom] Demayer’s source of inspiration.” [preceded the Isadora program, which was inspired by Image/ine].
